I built a new graphical prompt generating tool called Prompt EQ. This tool helps create a prompt or instruction for an LLM that influences its behavior.
To use it, adjust the sliders to your liking and how you want to affect the responses of the LLM you are using. Then click on the button to copy the resulting prompt and prepend this to your own question or other prompt for the LLM.

Many years ago I had the vision of being able to adjust the personality of an AI system with something like an audio graphic EQ interface. I thought of this because my first career was as a recording engineer, and the visual way to set the character of audio made a lot of sense.
My initial concept for this came out of my research into Animistic Design as a strategy for the design of AI. The ideas was to use personality to create metaphors, narratives and myths in AI systems, so they would be more understandable, transparent, and inspirational.
Animism works because humans use “aliveness” as a mental model that predicts the behavior of autonomous things.
Yet we hold this imaginary while knowing full well that things like chatbots and robots are definitely not alive, or motivated by any sort of consciousness (right?). And we tend to do this same kind of projection on other inanimate objects and the world around us in general.
This is where design plays an important role in the shaping of AI. By understanding how humans perceive and model the things they interact with we can create a more honest (if fictional) and usable thing to collaborate with.
I believe that AI is not really “intelligent” in the fullest sense, and tend to think of AI things as “dumb-smart”. Highly expert at some things, deeply inadequate at others and inevitably biased. With this pragmatic view, we can design them not to deceive, but be more true to their actual capabilities and limits.

Initially, I didn’t have a clue as to how to make this possible. But with the advent of LLMs, it is now very possible. So I’ve created a new tool that generates a prompt for an LLM that suggests the characteristics of an assistant. A typical output prompt of the tool is something like this:
Make your personality with the following characteristics on a scale of 1-10: humor 8.6, spontaneity 2.1, business 8.5, smart 8.3, scientific 2.8, accuracy 8.5
Try out the tool and let me know how it works for you in the comments. And send any suggestions you have that will improve it! I also would like to see this start a trend in making graphical tools that generate prompts. And feel free to adapt my code to your own application.
I’ve preset the traits you can adjust to humor, spontaneity, business, smart, and accuracy. But you can change them in the interface to anything you want—or just replace the text in the interface trait boxes. For a future version, I may create a spectrum for each slider. This way you could adjust the balance between something like:
literal ←——+——→ metaphorical
